Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp!
While your natural hair is styled, you’ll still want to keep your scalp moisturized and healthy. Braid sprays are the perfect alternative for moisture on the go. Formulated with hydrating oils and conditioners, braid sprays give lightweight moisture and extra shine to your braids.
To get rid of product buildup, I recommend washing your style at around the three-week mark (wash them sooner and more often if you workout or swim). If you want to maintain the integrity of your style, I recommend a natural based rinse with water, apple cider vinegar and tea tree or lavender oil extract (you may purchase in my salon). Another tip is mixing a quarter sized amount of shampoo with water in a spray bottle and massaging thoroughly in to your scalp, after which rinsing & applying a water based leave-in conditioner on your scalp and braids to rehydrate your hair.
Before you go to bed, it’s best to wrap your style in a silk scarf, bonnet or braid scarf! You can also use a silk or satin pillowcase to achieve the same results.
The constant wear and tear can easily lead to looser braids/twists/locs and a faster takeout time. This tension can also affect your natural hair and even lead to shedding and hair loss from too much pulling
If all else fails and your style is looking fuzzier than you’d like before the eight weeks are up, you can always book a touch up. A touch-up is recommended at your 3-4 week mark.
When taking down any protective style it’s important to loosen or remove the build-up as much as possible before combing out your hair. Loosen build-up by adding moisture to your scalp and hair. You should expect to comb out several shed hair strands as your hair naturally sheds strands daily. 6-8 (or 10-12 with locs) weeks of shed hair will look daunting but do not confuse this with hair loss. Comb out your hair right after removing your protective styles BEFORE washing to avoid hair matting. A two week break with a deep condition and trim is recommended between re-installing a protective style.
